Istanbul > Berlin > New York and (surely) beyond: Erdal Inci in Times Square

Video loop Wunderkind Erdal Inci of Istanbul, not least known to DL-ers through our first-time-in-Germany presentation of his insistently circling light-and-shadow-plays at DLX in Berlin way back in 2014, is now plastering his hypnotic (and at times unsettling) digital visions in nowhere less than Times Square, in the heart and core of the Big Apple. The work involved is called “Centipedes” and is presented in collaboration with DL kindred souls Moving Image Art Fair. But then, we always knew his work was astounding. Congrats from all of us here in Berlin, Erdal!

If you want to delve deeper into this enigmatic man’s soul, dive into our DL Deep Feature on Erdal, “Knocked For a Loop” – just click here.

Experimental visualization from oddviz is a follow-up from their previous ‘Hotel‘, a 3D scanned reconstruction of an actual building exposed with creative cross-sections:

Orphanages are dense and harmonious living spaces housing hundreds of children under same roof simultaneously. Abandoned Jewish Orphanage Building in Ortaköy (OHR-tah-keuy) Istanbul (also known as El Orfelinato) has been a home for thousand lives during its century old history. It holds the memory of the past in worn stairs and layers of paint.

oddviz sheds light upon the visual and spatial memory of El Orfelinato, documenting it as it is with photogrammetry and presenting it in doll house view.

El Orfelinato is the second piece of ongoing “Contextures” series by oddviz.

"Artist and photographer Erdal Inci has created a hypnotic series of GIFs that takes the concept of cloned motion to a truly eerie level. Often using images of himself in mundane situations, Inci transforms simple snapshots into entrancing video loops. Believe us, these clips will haunt your computer screen while you attempt to decipher the unique patterns."
